We belong together
a performance between José Luis Iñiguez, Ryan Dennison, and I
contact mic’d books and typewriters
working with language
and playing a record player as a instrument.
Some words typed repeated included "HOPE" and "HERE." All three performers rotated and improvised a set in three parts.
The piece pulls from records comprised of Native American artists from the 60s and 70s, many unknown and student records from BYU, a Mormon college (from their "Indian Student Placement Program" that worked to "socialize" Native students in university systems), as well as records by Ritchie Valens. Other percussive elements included sticks, hands, and voice.
